When people who are foreign nationals violate the U.S immigration laws and enter the United States it is called illegal immigration. In 2016, the illegal immigrant population in America was estimated to be around 11 million people. There are three ways people remain in the country illegally 1.If the illegal immigrant marries a U.S citizen or a lawful permanent resident he or she can attain the legal status and can stay in the country as the illegal immigrant becomes the immediate relative of a U.S citizen therefore it’s a reasonable path to legal status (Bray, 2021).
